About my designs...
Nothing is impossible with my applique techniques and methods; nothing but fun; success and beautiful quilts. As you may or may not know, not all machine applique designs are done with a satin stitch, zig-zag stitch or button-hole/blanket stitch on your sewing machine. Some are done with matching threads using "free-motion stitching", known as raw edge applique; and some applique is done by hand, known as "needle turn". It all depends on the effect you want.
These Honu (the Hawaiian word for turtle) shell-back designs are unique, making them ideal for sewing machine satin edge applique. The designs are created from various drawings of tropical images from around the Big Island of Hawaii. When sewing these patterns you will be working with a "negative" environment, meaning the black will show through to create the design. I try to keep the designs simple but also interesting. Don't fret as there are nothing but happy mistakes with my techniques. Afraid of cutting something wrong! Don't worry, my patterns are very forgiving. Don't like cutting out "all those pieces", order LASER CUT Kits, they are fast, saves a ton of time which gives you more time to sew!
Now for the "surprise," keep the "cutout" pieces and parts" (positive pieces) in a baggie for later use. The "left-overs" or "positives" can be reused to create a whole different set of Honus called Twofers, or 2-4-1's! Enjoy!
There are three different Modern Prairie Styles for purchase. Modern Prairie Revisited Runner, Modern Prairie Revisited Placemats, Modern Prairie Sea Glass and the latest one Modern Prairie Fortune Teller. Each of these patterns uses fabric from Island Batik. Just to let you know Modern Prairie Fortune Teller is the "easiest" one to make. Yes, those are actual "1/4" leading fabric (cut 3/4" wide). The photos are posted in the shopping cart.
Quilt stores, you can request a trunk show of my work. Please inquire at the time you place your pattern order. I do have all my quilts available to loan out!
